I am a SCITT student in Stockton Borough Council and have recently had the pleasure of visiting Holy Trinity Primary school to observe English lessons. I had not seen your strategy used before, but wqas incredibly impressed with the outcomes. The children from Y3 and Y5 were using accurate terminology (types of clauses etc) and were able to recognise capitals and punctuation extremely well and, by colouring them different colours, were able to self-assess. Their writing was very imaginative and a pleasure to read. I had a wonderful day, Thanks!
I recently took part in an online writing blog with my friend and you replied! Our peice was called The Horror Dog. I would just like to tell you that that wasn't a one off thing. I am a very passionate writer, specifically a story teller. I was hoping you'd like to see a bit more of my work so I've wrote my website adress below. I am only 10!
Does anyone know if Pie Corbett usually replys via email?
I teach a mixed year 1/2 class and really struggling to plan Literacy lessons for my class that engage them. I have covered descriptions, story writing and poems. My topic is Dragons and I have created a cave within the classroom to motivate exciting writing. I move on to a new topic in two weeks. Please help!
Firstly thanks so much for replying to a query I recently e-mailed to Nick Batty about connectives and conjunctions. I really appreciated your taking time to respond so quickly -the school I am working with are going to follow your advice and use connectives in KS1 and then move to the use of conjunctions in Y3 - KS2. They are also using the Progression in Writing document from the Talk for Writing materials to cumulatively introduce language structures and terminology linked to text types and writing.
Secondly can I just say that the letter you wrote to Michael Rosen re the draft Primary English Curriculum has been the voice of reason and sanity as I try to align Support for Spelling with Spelling in the New Programme of Study !! The previous progression seems to have been reduced to random rules and content scatttered around the Year groups. It almost seems that there has been a case of throwing everything up in the air and seeing where it falls!
I'm working with a group of schools on Spelling and always start with what makes active and effective teachers of spelling -Understanding Spelling CLPE - and your 'Tips for Teaching Spelling ' so far as I can see confidence and success in spelling is much more to do with how we engage ,enthuse and fascinate children with words and less to do with rules and regulations ( which we would all agree have their place in spelling )
On reflection I am going to worry less about the detailed content which I am wrestling to re align and focus more on effective practice -strategies for spellers - perhaps entitled
'Spelling - what works ?'
Thanks again -reading your thoughts has made me re focus on what teachers really need to know about spelling and what matters for children -
wow I hered you were good but this is a hole new thing and by the way is your name actualy pie
In 2008 you published Talk for Writing with was a dvd . I have unfortunaley lost my copy, I wondered how I could get a replacment. If you could help this would be great fully appreciated.
I am an Literacy and Numeracy Instructional Leader (Teacher Mentor) based in a Primary School in Broken Hill NSW Australia. I was searching for ideas about teaching concepts of Simple, Compound and Complex sentences to both students and teachers when I came across the Oxford School Improvement website. This led me on a wonderful journey of exploration of videos, handouts and teaching ideas for storytelling and writing. I am now going to share these sites and links with my colleagues and will be a regular visitor of all of these Outstanding resources.
I attended the Grammar through Talk for Writing session in Kent this month. I used some of your ideas in a lesson for an interview and got the job! I used your poem 'If I had wings' and we wrote some fantastic poems. Brilliant-I will be teaching a lively Year 3 class at a school in London! Thanks for the inspiration.
All the best-

Saw Pie at a consortium inset. Wow! He has revolutionised our teaching and whole literacy SoW based on the Trevithick model. Definitely worth paying to see this inspirational guy!
Hi I recently bought 'Evidence of Dragons' and have just read The Homecoming - if I could write I would say something significant - all I can say is thankyou.
Just noticed a sp error on the NEW! part of the site.....recieving......ooooops
The Inset you delivered to our cluster today was one of the most interesting and informative sources of Literacy I have been involved in throughout my Eight year position as an LSA and am looking forward to getting back to school tomorrow to apply some of the multitudes of ideas and concepts that I have glued in the fore-front of my mind,
I thank you.x
My school is very interested in working with Pie on developing our Writing across the school. We are based in the Northampton area and have tentative links with other schools about creating a cluster to work on this. However, after speaking to my head, we are willing to work with other schools out of our area to implement Talk For Writing.
Please can we have an outline of costs and any relevant information.
I am enquiring about the possibilities of you delivering INSET to a group of Norfolk schools. Colleagues have returned from your training ( the most recent being in Birmingham) inspired and empowered. As a cluster of head teachers or , using one of your brilliant openers (generating collective nouns) as a 'headache' of head teachers, we would very much appreciate knowing your availability and costs.
ps Having opened the 'opening exercise' out to staff at lunch, the noun became A 'hazard 'of head teachers... the jury's out on that one!
I recently attended your talk for writing course in Birmingham and have since completed a unit of work using your ideas. The results were fantastic and my head teacher is very keen on rolling your ideas and concepts throughout the entire school. I would be very grateful if you could send me details of prices, availability etc. Ideally we would like to book you as soon as possible!
Cape Primary School
Hi Pie saw you at sheff/chest` oh......must have been 2005 ; inspirational stuff, keep raving about you to colleagues, really need to get you into the Barnsley area.
Keep doing the great sevice you do for childrens English education!!
I have just been told some of your poems in school and really enjoyed them, my favourite one is Oakridge night.
I hope to read more of your poems soon.
I am interested in trying to arrange a training course. Allthough the message says do not enquire via the Guestbook, I do not see any other way of making an enquiry. I would be grateful for information on the possibility of holding a training course here in Sheffield. Look forward to your reply. Thanks.
Just wanted to know about the possibility of arranging an inset day with you in 2013.
I have been trying to arrange some INSET training via the National literacy Trust on Talk for Writing, which I believe is delivered by staff apporved by yourself. I have left enquiries, but nobody seems to be getting back as regards this. Can you help? Is there a more direct way of organising this?
Just a quick message to say I attended your Canterbury session today and you were brilliant! I learnt so much in the whole day compared to what I have in a whole year of my teaching course so thank you. I am very glad I attended and I am very inspired. :)
Do you have any availability to do in school training in the spring or summer term 2013? We are based in Birmingham.
Can anyone tell me where I can find the image of a cloud trapped in an empty birdcage please? Pie showed it on his course last Friday and though I have scoured the internet, I am unable to locate it! Can anyone help?
I don't do Facebook, so hope you get this!! Attended your training in London yesterday and as usual I left totally rejuventated and reinspired. Thank you! I wanted to know how I can obtain the CD of Music for Writing which you showed us yesterday. Is it avaliable to purchase yet? I googled it but nothing came up. I would love to use it.
I am currently studying towards an Education degree at University and am writing a report on the benefits of shared reading in the home learning environment. It was suggested that I research your work and it has been extremely beneficial. I thought I would just write and let you know how interesting it has been learning about what you do and of how much importance there is in this type of learning.
Teachers at my school would like to attend your training courses. However the nearest at the moment is Birmingham which is quite a journey from Northumberland. Do you have any dates in the pipeline to visit Northumberland/Tyne and Wear? Or we are willing to share the cost of training with another school.
Just a query about you coming in to for a whole school INSET, just costings and availablity.
Thanks for all the inspiration!!
A few of our staff have attended and loved your 'Transforming Writing' courses and we would like an opportunity to work with you in training our staff in modelled and shared writing. We have just amalgamated with a School with 'Notice to Improve' and have an extremely high percentage of children with EAL which this would benefit. We would also invite other schools in our area. We are thinking of the INSET day of 11th June but are very flexible. Please contact to let me know if this is possible.
Best Wishes for 2012
Literacy Coordinator George Eliot Primary School
Our school is also interested in the possibility of an INSET day on Talk for Writing across the Creative Curriculum. How do I get in touch to discuss dates/prices etc.?
Deputy Head, Greenleas Lower School, Linslade, Beds, LU7 2AB. 01525 371735
Many of our staff love your work and have benefitted from attending one of your courses over the years and we would very much ike an opportunity to re-fresh and join with others in our cluster and possibly host a training event in the Potters Bar area this forth-coming year. Would this be possible? If so, please could we discusss dates, cost etc.
Best Wishes for 2012
Headteacher St Giles' C of E Primary School
Many of our staff have been on your courses and have sung your praises. Wondering if you could do INSET days/half days? If so could you please let me know the cost involved.
Julia Moxon [Literacy co-ordinator, Robin Hood School, Birmingham]
p.s. Have a good Christmas and a Happy New Year
Teachers at our school would like to attend your training courses. However the nearest at the moment is Birmingham which is quite a journey from Northumberland. Do you have any dates in the pipeline to visit Northumberland/Tyne and Wear?
In our literacy lesson today we re-wrote 'City Jungle', looking at the personification and thought you might like to take a look!
Our ‘City Jungle’
Shops painfully vomit out all of the fun toys,
Letterboxes gulp down business bills,
As it whistles in the dark night, swallowing the postage stamps
Whilst the people post the letters through its royal red lips,
Deep down into it’s throat
The jet black road skips across the city, whilst it leads the way,
The cars smiled at me when I walk past,
Reflecting ears listening,
Shining eyes showing me the way,
A band playing in the car
Houses eat anyone who dares to enter,
Looming trees stand with their arms out stretched,
Hair raised and coughing up leaves for a hedgehog’s home
Old banana skins jump across the rough road,
The enormous black bins regurgitate yesterday’s meal,
While leaping along the road
The streetlights glare everywhere,
With their bright eyes in the dark night.

Hope you liked it! An e-mail back to the children would be lovely!
Miss Simpson, Willen Primary, Milton Keynes
We would like you to visit our school for an INSET and possibly to work with the children as well. I wonder if you would contact me so we can talk about dates and fees. thank you.
Thank you for writing your latest book Talk for Writing across the Curriculum. I have seen you in Thurrock a couple of times, lastly on the subject leader training, and you have helped us to improve the writing in our school in a big way. I am so excited to teach writing, using all your ways in every part of the curriculum and the new book has helped immensely. Will share all the ideas with the rest of the staff who are equally excited because they have seen the results of talk for writing. We have some new staff who are going to be fully trained to use talk for writing. Thanks again Caroyn McAllister
We are very interested in you visiting our school for an INSET day, but I can not find any other links to you to book anything...
I am interested in booking you to come in school and inspire our staff but can't access the contact details on the website.
Hi there Pie,
I am an avid follower of your self and would like to buy you into our school for some inspirational training. I am unable to find this information on your website. Please can you advise me where to go?
I like the story of Mr.Zigger and Mr.Zagger!!
And I like the way you do the actions with your hands and thumbs!!!
Kind Regards, Aman.
P.S. Did you know my name means Peace?
Ture fact! I'm not kidding! Go on Google and type 'What does Aman mean?' And you'll find the answer!!
I am currently in my last year of university and have decided to do my dissertation on Storytellling, looking at how important it is for Pre- School children to be involved when listening or telling stories. Just wondered if you could provide some information on this if possible, or if you could please point me in the right direction into looking for some research.
Good readers make good writers. What a fantastic day. I have come away with some great ideas to inspire my class to write better and new enthusiasm for literature. Thank you Pie, Stephanie and Gill
We would love you to deliver a day or half day training course at Paddington Green Primary School in Westminster, London. I am assuming you are already booked for 3.1.12, 11.6.12. We do not as yet know the Sept '12 INSET dates but if the other dates are already full booked, what is your availability in Sept? Many thanks, Katarine Deeks
PS: apologies for writing in the guest book but access to the link in the Contact Pie section is blocked at my school!
I am trying to find out whether you are able to do some school training in Newcastle. Please advise how to contact you as I was unable to use the contact pie section of your website which is blocked by our school server!! Really helpful! Many thanks Louise Fabian

Can you let me know if you are interested?
Where could I find information about you on the web?
Couldn't find your e-mail address and would love to talk with you about the possibility of you running an inset for our school and staff from cluster schools either on the 3 January or the 30 March 2012. You have visited our school in the past and we would love our new staff to be as inspired as those who have moved to new schools! (Padnell Infant School, Cowplain, Hampshire)
Hope to hear from you soon.
Sorry, forgot to add it would be on 5th January 2012 if possible.

Kind Regards,Aman Kaur Najjhur.
P.S: I remember getting my autograph from you.
I'm looking for inspiration to improve the writing in my school. I see that you do visit schools to do training and I believe that it would be beneficial for us all to have the same experience rather than a few selected teachers attend one of your courses. I would be grateful if you could advise me of costs and of course, your availability.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
I met you in Nottingham at Nottingham Emmanuel School on 07 March, when you introduced teachers from 11 schools in Clifton and The Meadows to your Talk for Writing programme.
I would now like to arrange an INSET day on Talk for Writing for schools in Bilborough, on the west side of Nottingham City, which we could also open up to other schools across the City.
Would you please contact me to discuss whether or not this is something you would be able to do, your charges and your available dates. Something this term would be wonderful. You can contact me by e-mail - firstname.lastname@example.org or telephone 0115 915 5709.
I really look forward to hearing from you.
With best wishes.
We are trying hard to inspire both teachers and pupils with Writing.
Do you visit schools to do in-school training?
We have a day planned for the beginning of January '12.
Would you be able to come?
